The best filing decision starts with a complete picture of the year. Use this checklist before choosing nil or preparing a normal return.
Taxy is not KRA or a government website. Guidance is general, and important decisions should be checked against official KRA information or reviewed by a qualified professional.
Start with your KRA profile
Confirm the PIN belongs to you, the registered email is accessible and the Income Tax obligation was active for the period. Review whether other obligations appear on the profile; they may have separate filing requirements.
Review money received across the whole year
Look beyond bank salary credits. Check for:
- P9 forms and payslips from every employer.
- Freelance, consulting, online-platform and casual-work payments.
- Business sales, mobile-money receipts and allowable expense records.
- Rental or farming income and related records.
- Interest, dividends, withholding certificates and other investment documents.
Check earlier years
An unresolved return, assessment, missing credit or incorrect earlier declaration can affect what you do next. Save submission receipts and payment records. If the history does not make sense, request help before adding another filing.
